Do you really need legal pages for online businesses?

Legal templates are essential for every online business. You need legal pages on the website to protect your business and money. But what and where do you need it? You need a trifecta of legal pages Privacy Policies, Terms and Conditions, and Disclaimers on every website to protect your business.

Are there websites on the internet that are running without trifecta? Yes, some websites are running with these important trifecta. Should I have told you that? Of course, I want you to know there are two paths, safe and risk.

Going under a red light is not safe. But at times we all have taken risks and run through red lights in the hope of not getting caught. Just like this, some websites are running without a trifecta of legal pages and are at risk of getting in trouble.

Why is a Privacy Policy important?

  1. Privacy Policy is one of the most important legal templates, it is required in many jurisdictions. Not having one can result in penalties and fines.
  2. It builds trust between people and the website. They are more comfortable browsing through websites after knowing how and when you will use their information.
  3. It saves your skin against lawsuits. Privacy Policy establishes the legal boundaries for how you collect and use personal information.

Why are the Terms and Conditions important?

  1. Terms and Conditions works as the rule setter for the website. They are the rules someone agrees to when using your website.
  2. It limits the liability by ensuring that people have agreed to the rules by using your website. So basically it secures the website and reduces the risks of legal disputes.
  3. It protects your right to have the ownership of your intellectual property rights.

Why is a Disclaimer important?

  1. It helps prevent misunderstandings about the information provided on your website.
  2. It reduces the risks of legal disputes as you are making it clear in your general statements that you are not a substitute for professional advice. Even if you are a professional you won't be working as a substitute. People may take your advice and statements out of context and when things go bad blame you for it.

Therefore you do need legal pages on your website including all of the trifecta to save Time, Money, and Effort.

How Legal Templates Help Side Hustle?

A side hustle isn't just about watching TikTok and buying courses in hopes of making money. It requires dedication and actions.

Even though side hustles have always been taken as “easy money” you still need a proper system to generate money to pay bills. Legal templates help protect your business interests.

PITFALL #1: Overextending Yourself.

It only takes a minute to make mind and start a side hustle. Maybe you have a proper system or a helping hand to help you out.

When you start something you work harder to accomplish your dream as soon as you can. While doing so you forget about your health. You are important so take care of yourself and do not forget or neglect self-care time.

My advice is when you start a side hustle do make little preparations.

PITFALL #2: Not Setting Up Protection for Your Earnings

You may have never been employed. Maybe you are employed and now need a pepper system to set up a side hustle.

Whatever circumstances you are in. I know one thing you are not expected to know or do everything. You can't be a CEO, marketing expert, financial manager, and lawyer at the same time.

There is a simple fact when you make money people want your money. Even when you are not having or making money people still want your money.

No one is working 10+ hours a day for fun. We are all working to pay our bills. When starting a side hustle you will face taxes and the possibility of getting sued.

To save yourself from this problem you need to have legal pages on your website. So do look for legal temples that fit your system.

PITFALL #3: Not Setting Up Agreements with Others

You are working on a side hustle with someone. My first guess would be friends or family. These are the people you think of when you want to start something.

They are the most loved and trusted people for you but as soon as money is involved in something the most trustful people show their back.

Don't worry. I am not trying to scare you. The first step to securing your rights is to know who is doing what. Are you their boss are they your boss?

If you are working with someone you need to know to figure out the roles of which roles you and they play. If you are sharing pie go for a partnership agreement but if you are working alone then go for an independent contractor agreement.

PITFALL #4: Not Protecting Yourself

My first point was that you should NOT forget or neglect self-care time. I’ll say it again: you are important, and your health is important.

While you work on side hustle make sure you have “me time.” Do what you love to do in “me time,” read a book, watch football, or play a game. (but watch your time allocation) Do whatever makes you happy and give relief and a little relief to your mind.

There are many terrible unhappy people out there on the internet. And psychopaths, who are terrible but happy because they don't have a sense of right and wrong. But don't be scared. I got you.

First, get the business address and take down your identifying pictures of where you live. Second, un-list your phone number and be ready.

PITFALL #5: Not Getting (Good) Help to Save Money

You started a side hustle to put cash in your pocket, not someone else’s. At times you might think that you are not spending money in the right direction.

I get that. With all of the Pitfalls I have mentioned above, I want you to be more aware of where you spend your money and time. Don't use bad products, you want to grow and protect your side hustle, not get yourself into another problem.

Example:

You make $50/hour from a side hustle (yay!). Your business is growing, now you want to secure your business and write out your own contract (any agreement).

Writing a legal contract is not a piece of cake. You may spend days figuring out the best way to write your own contract.

Let's say it takes you 8 hours. That is $400 you spend on writing a contract. By the way, I am way underestimating that 8 hours.

On the other hand, individual legal templates are often LESS than $100. If you are purchasing a package together then you are saving more money. So instead of spending 8+ hours, you should purchase a legal contract and save that time to earn more money.

IN SUM:

Make sure your side hustle is protected with proper legal templates. I have been practicing law for over 10 years, and I care about the quality of work I put out into the world. Visit The Cut JenStone, where I have written all of the legal templates by myself.
